The Shardiya Navratri festival is celebrated after the end of Pitru Paksha. This festival of worship of Mother Shakti lasts from Pratipada of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month till Navami Tithi. In this nine-day long festival, nine different forms of Maa Durga are worshiped according to the rituals.
Navratri fasts are observed for nine days. This holy festival is started by doing Ghatasthapana in the auspicious time and the festival is ended with Kanya Poojan. This year the Shardiya Navratri festival will start from 26 September 2022, which will continue till 4 October 2022.

The auspicious time for Ghatasthapana will be from 6:11 am to 7:51 am on 26 September 2022. Apart from this, on this day Abhijit Muhurta is from 12:06 PM to 12:54 PM.

Brahmacharini Maa is worshipped on the second day of Navratri. She is considered as the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati. Brahmacharini is the Sanskrit term which means: Brahma, the absolute reality, the supreme consciousness + Charini, the female version of ‘Charya’, which means the one who behaves or conducts.
Brahmacharini Mata adorns herself in white attire; keeps a Japa Mala (rosary) in her right hand and Kamandala (stoup) in her left hand. She signifies loyalty and wisdom. Also, she is an epitome of love. As per the mythology, Goddess Parvati had this desire to marry Lord Shiva.
When her parents got to know about this, they tried to discourage her. However, it didn’t work and she approached Lord Kama, the God of erotic activities and attraction, to help her. In this pursuit, Kama shot an arrow of pleasure and desire into Shiva. Being in meditative state, Shiva got disturbed and really angry. So, he burnt him into ashes.
The story didn’t end here. She, then, started living the way Shiva does. The Goddess went to mountains and lived the life of an ascetic for many years. Hence, she got the name Brahmacharini. Due to this, she drew the attention of Lord Shiva. So, he went to her in disguise and told all the negative traits of Shiva.

In Hinduism, Chandraghanta is the third navadurga aspect of goddess Mahadevi. Her name Chandra-Ghanta, means “one who has a half-moon shaped like a bell. Her third eye is always opened and she is always ready for war against demons”.
She is also known as Chandraghanta, Chandrika or Rannchandi. It is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta, who is also believed to be the Shakti of Lord Shiva. Maa Chandraghanta is also referred to as the “married” form of Devi Parvati.
She is known to protect her devotees from all types of evil spirits and has a half-moon (shaped like a temple bell) sitting on her forehead.

The fourth day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Kushmanda. Mother is worshiped and worshiped on this day. It is believed that on this day the mind of the seeker is situated in the ‘Anahata’ chakra. That is why worship should be done by meditating on the form of Kushmanda Devi with a very pure heart.
She is worshiped in the form of Kushmanda Devi because of her soft, mild laughter causing the egg, that is, the universe. In Sanskrit language, Kushmanda is called Kumhad. Among the sacrifices, the sacrifice of the potter is most dear to them. For this reason also Maa is called Kushmanda.

Skandamātā (Sanskrit: स्कन्दमाता) is the fifth among the Navadurga forms of Mahadevi. Her name comes from Skanda, an alternate name for the war god Kartikeya, and Mātā, meaning mother. As one of the Navadurga, the worship of Skandamātā takes place on the fifth day of Navaratri. Her abode is in Vishuddha chakra.

Kalratri Mata is said to be the seventh form out of nine forms of Goddess Durga. On the seventh day of Navratri, she is worshiped keeping this form of the mother in mind. This name of the goddess is due to her appearance. In this form, the complexion of the mother is black like kajal.
Jaggery and halwa should be offered to Maa Kalratri, due to which she is pleased and fulfills the wishes of the devotees. The time for worshiping Maa Kalratri from 4 to 6 am is considered to be the best. Maa Kalratri is known as Kali, Mahakali, Bhadrakali, Bhairavi, Mrityu, Rudrani, Chamunda, Chandi, Raudri and Dhumorna Devi.

Mahagauri is the eighth form among the Navadurga aspects of the Hindu mother goddess Mahadevi. She is worshipped on the eighth day of Navaratri. According to Hinduism, Mahagauri has the power to fulfill all the desires of her devotees.

URN Installation Method (कलश )
First of all, select the place of worship in the north-east direction in the house. Clean it with Gangajal by mopping it. After this, lay the mother’s post. Install the idol of the mother by laying a red cloth on it. After that install the vase. Wrap the chunri in coconut and tie a moli on the face of the kalash.
Fill the urn with water and put a pair of cloves, betel nut, turmeric lump, durva and one rupee coin. Now put five mango leaves on the face of the Kalash and place coconut on it. Place this Kalash on the right side of the idol of the mother. After this process, invoke Maa Durga with mantra.
Significance of Sharadiya Navratri
According to Hindu belief, Shardiya Navratri is the best time to worship Goddess Durga. During the 9 days of Navratri, different forms of the mother are worshiped every day, which blesses her devotees. Every day of Navratri is dedicated to a specific form of the Goddess.
And by the grace of each Goddess, different types of desires are fulfilled. It is said that the devotee who observes Shardiya Navratri fast with a sincere heart, Goddess Durga takes away all his troubles and gives him a happy and prosperous life. With this fast all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled.
According to the Hindu calendar, the Navratri festival starts from the Pratipada of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Ashwin, which continues till the Navami Tithi.
