Hey! Everyone, This is Tanya and today will be talking about the book “The Fault In Our Stars” by John Green. So, this book speaks about the meaning of life and how it is to live your life while you are dying inside. And this book actually touched my heart. So, the story begin with the protagonist girl name Hazel Grace Lancaster who is 17 years old, she has thyroid cancer that has almost reached to her lungs. Unlike others her life it different, it is more of medicines, doctor appointments, surgeries etc. Despite all this she is beautiful and young. She has the problem in breathing therefore she uses a portable oxygen tank all time. The Fault in Our Stars

Thinking she is depressed one day her mother urges her to attend a weekly cancer patient support group in order to make her feel better and to help her make new friends. There she meets Augustus, an attractive teenager who has lost his one leg to bone cancer and now he is using the artificial one. Both of them find good friends in each other and decides to spend more time together.
Then one day Augustus invites Hazel to his home and they both decides to exchange their favorite books with each other. Hazel recommends an “Imperial Affliction”, a book about a girl name Anna suffering from cancer whereas Augustus recommends “The Price of Dawn”. It’s not the time of high technology therefore they keep in touch via normal texts. They shares the experience of everything like how they are feeling or what are their opinions regarding it and so on. The Fault in Our Stars
As soon as Augustus finishes the book he shows his frustration as the book that Hazel has given to him does not have the proper ending or it’s incomplete. To which Hazel explains to him that Peter Van (novels author) retreated himself to Amsterdam after publishing the book and after that he hasn’t published anything, he never interviewed, he doesn’t seem to be online, he never responds to Hazel’s text even. After doing investigation or you can say research Augustus tells Hazel that he has traced the number of Peter’s assistant Lidewij and mailed to Peter as well regarding the same as well. Then Hazel also writes to him in order to find out the ending of the novel. After all this one day Peter Van replies that he will answer all her questions in person and for that she needs to visit him in Amsterdam.
As he thinks that Hazel may leak the story to others if he will responds to her email. So, in respect to this Hazel asks her mom if she can visit Amsterdam, but her mom refuses due to medical and financial condition. Augustus meanwhile suggest Hazel that she can use the “Cancer Wish” that she got from the foundation but Hazel has already used it to her visit to Disney Land.
Augustus and Hazel Begin to fall in love with each other and go on a date.
There Augustus surprises her with the tickets to Amsterdam. Hazel takes the permission from the doctors as well for the same. So, Hazel, Augustus and Hazel’s mom go to Amsterdam. On reaching there, they are presented with an amazing date organized by the author of that book Peter Van. During the date Augustus finally confesses his feelings towards Hazel and Hazel also gets happy. Next day they both visit to Peter Van’s house and are welcomed by his assistant Lidewij.
They both are shocked to find that Peter is an alcoholic person who drinks a lot. There Lidewij arranges their meeting with Peter without telling him anything and this made Peter so disturbed. Angrily he taunts Hazel unnecessarily.
He made fun of her as well, he added that Hazel is so careless that she is here for knowing the stupid ending of the novel and she belittles her medical condition. In anger Hazel responds rudely and leaves. Next day Lidewij takes them for sightseeing and they visit to Anne frank house. After that they kiss each other and head back towards hotel, where they make love for the first and last time. Meanwhile Augustus tells Hazel that his cancer is back, spread throughout his body and it’s on the last stage.

Hearing this Hazel is heartbroken and speechless.
She now says how unfair life is actually. To which Augustus replies that “Apparently, the world is not the wish granting factory”. Then they returned back to their home from Amsterdam. After few days Augustus health worsens more and more. He is taken to ICU, he is less active and dull. Hazel realizes that she loves him so much and watching him in this condition is unbearable for her. In his final days Augustus arranges a pre-funeral for himself. In this pre-funeral, Hazel and Isaac were invited. Isaac is their mutual friend that met them in the foundation.
Hazel and Isaac both delivers their messages. Hazel cries in between and explains how much she loves Augustus and adds a quote “You gave me forever, within the numbered days”. After 8 days Augustus dies and Hazel is totally broken inside-out. At the funeral Hazel gets shocked to find Peter Van (author of that incomplete book). He gives her a letter but Hazel just ignores it as she is already disturbed with the past experience.

Later on Peter van discloses that Augustus had demanded him to attend his funeral in order to make up for that spoiled trip. Then Peter van tells her that the novel is based on the experience of his daughter Anna, who died at the very young age. Later on after talking to Isaac regarding this hazel learns that Augustus has sent the pages to Peter Van because he wanted him to use these pages and prepare well-written eulogy for Hazel. The novel ends with the Hazel reading Augustus last words.
She lies down, looking up at the stars, smiling and after reading the whole letter she says “Okay!” J

So, this book basically teaches us that in our lives we always try to avoid the pain and be happy every time and that’s nice but here it says that pain demands to be felt. Pain is the part of life so accept it and keep going. Everyone you meet is fighting their own battles so be nice to everyone. Plus one more thing to be noted here is, you can’t get always what you want as “Apparently, the world is not the wish granting factory”. So, to all your problems just smile and move on!
